Saloum Delta Interpretation Center
Our story
The Saloum Delta Interpretation Center (CIDS) is at the heart of community life in Toubacouta and the management of the Saloum Delta. It was founded in 2013 by the MDG-F project on "Culture and Development" in Senegal, coordinated by UNESCO in cooperation with other organizations and is the first center of its kind to be established in Senegal. The Interpretation Center serves as a space for exchange and promotion made available to community members and foreign visitors to enhance the cultural and natural heritage of the Saloum Delta and Toubacouta.
As much as the Interpretation Center offers many activities for travelers (see them in the 'Services' section of our website), it also offers a wide range of services for the community of the village of Toubacouta. The CIDS has a library where children can come regularly to learn. A large outdoor room, called the "Green Theater" for its dozens of plants and trees that decorate it, is available to host all kinds of events, activities, performances, etc. The multipurpose room is used to host meetings, seminars and conferences. The Nature Club is also an initiative of CIDS to educate children about the importance of protecting the environment. The group of young people carries out several activities of sensitizing the population, cleaning the surroundings of the Interpretation Center and reforestation. In addition, many training or initiation workshops are offered to the community on various topics. Finally, the “women's house” is a space for promoting women's production and disseminating good practices to be adopted to ensure sustainable exploitation of the natural resources of the Saloum Delta.
